My name is Kyle Goulard, I’m a financial planner and coach, and I primarily serve early to mid-career physicians in Portland, Oregon and around the United States. I’ve witnessed firsthand the difficult decisions that this group is often faced with due to a delay in starting their careers, the amount of debt incurred through school and residency, and the new set of financial challenges once they’ve entered the workforce. 

As if that weren't enough, the financial services industry is designed and driven to profit from the newly elevated income of physicians (often in lieu of doing right by the individual). This can be a recipe for distrust - but it doesn't have to be that way. This group is in a position to succeed and thrive with the right guidance and partnership. 

That is why I launched Goulard Financial Planning, where I am ethically and legally bound as a fiduciary and I provide advice and service for one flat fee.

Step 1 - Get Acquainted (Approx. 30 minutes)

Hi! Let's get acquainted over a 30 minute video call and your beverage of choice.

What is top of mind for you at the moment? What do you hope to accomplish by partnering with an advisor? It’s important to me that we find you the best match for your unique financial life. If we’re not a good fit, I will gladly introduce you to the right expert for your unique needs.

Step 2 - Explore (Approx. 1 hour)

It's important that I demonstrate how I may add value to your life before you pay me a single dollar in fees.

Through the use of a values-based approach, I will be creating a firm understanding of your financial life and identify the ways in which I can provide the most value to you.

During this meeting, we will:
  1. Have your most pressing financial questions addressed.
  2. Identify any ‘blind spots’ in your financial life.
  3. Share a glimpse into how our client-advisor partnership would look.
At the end of this meeting, I will ask if you would like to begin working together or if you would like to think about it.

Step 3 -Think About It

I’m looking for long-term client relationships, not a quick transaction.

It’s important that you take as much time as needed to make a decision. To help you make a smart decision, answer these questions:

  • Do I like, trust, and respect Goulard Financial Planning?
  • Do the benefits outweigh the cost? 
  • Do I understand and agree with the investment approach? 
  • Do the financial planning recommendations make sense?
I will follow-up within a few days to determine how you would like to move forward. If you decide that we aren’t a good fit to work together, I won’t take it personally. In fact, I will wish you the best and help you find someone who might be a better fit. There is never a hard-sell or pressure to say yes.

Fee Only and Fiduciary? What does it mean and why is it important to me?

To be "Fee Only", an advisor's compensation must come exclusively from their respective client in the form of an agreed upon fee such as a flat dollar amount or a percentage of assets. By removing other incentives, like commissions or 3rd party compensation agreements, our clients receive unbiased, conflict-free advice.

Goulard Financial Planning LLC is a Registered Investment Advisor and Kyle Goulard is a Certified Financial Planner™. At both levels, we are ethically and legally bound to act as a Fiduciary. Kyle has also taken the Fiduciary Oath required of all XY Planning Network members.


I'm not an early to mid-career physician. Can we still work together?

Yes! While my services are designed with the early to mid-career physician in mind, many individuals are faced with similar financial challenges and seek a professional who they trust and can partner with. Grab a spot on my calendar for a complimentary 'Get Acquainted' meeting to answer your most pressing questions and to receive an initial assessment. If we can't be of best service to you going forward, then we will work with you to find a fee only, fiduciary advisor who can!


I don't live in Portland, how do I work with you?

We are physically based in Portland, OR - but we’re a virtual practice. This means that we leverage technology to make our work together convenient and effective - from video conferencing to 24/7 secure access to your financial plan and accounts - we are designed to simplify your financial life, not complicate it. If you happen to be in beautiful Portland, we would love to meet you in-person!


What is your investment approach if I choose to take advantage of your investment management services?

We invest with medium to long-term goals in mind. We believe in keeping investment costs low, whether we’re using index funds or other low cost investment solutions. We also believe that our clients may want to align their investments with their values through the use of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) funds.

We won't be a good fit if you are someone who believes they can beat the market or wants to talk about daily stock returns.


Do I need to have a lot of money to work with a financial planner?

No you don't! We believe that financial advice should be available to all ages, regardless of the size of your investment accounts or stage of your life.


Will you work with my other professionals like my CPA and attorney?

Of course. We welcome the opportunity to work with your trusted professionals to help you implement the recommendations identified during our planning process.

If other professionals are required to accomplish your goals and you don't have an established relationship, we will happily introduce you to a trusted individual in our network.

Investment Management

We believe in the passive investment management philosophy. This means that low cost mutual funds, including index funds, are used for most of our investing needs. 

We also believe that Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) and Environmental Social Governance (ESG) investment strategies should be available for those who wish to align their investments with their core values and beliefs.


Investment Management Fees

For clients who are engaged in Ongoing Financial Life Planning Services, Investment Management Services are included at no additional advisory fees. We use XY Investment Solutions as our investment management platform, which charges a platform fee of 35 basis points (0.35%).

For clients who only wish to engage in Investment Management Services, we charge 75 basis points (0.75%) in addition to the XY Investment Solutions platform fee of 35 basis points (0.35%).

If you are like most people, it's hard to find time in your busy day-to-day life to sit down with your loved ones to discuss priorities and make decisions about your life and finances. That's why when I launched Goulard Financial Planning in 2019, I did it to serve my clients not only as a financial advisor, but as as a thought partner, guide, and educator.

I became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional in my 30s, which has provided me a larger toolbox for addressing unique financial challenges often faced by individuals and families. I’m a proud member of XY Planning Network, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), and the Money Quotient community, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded on the belief that a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to financial education and planning will engage individuals and inspire them to maximize their resources and live purposeful lives.

I serve my clients in a fiduciary capacity, which means I am ethically and legally obligated to put your interests ahead of mine. Here's my oath to prove it.

In my free time, I love skiing on Mt. Hood, taking a couple minutes to dream up my next adventure with a Scott's Cheap Flights email, and hitting the open road with the latest Above & Beyond podcast. You may also find me scouting the wonderful city of Portland in search of the best buttery, flaky croissant.
